Design ideas

Your website CMS can be given a very distinctive look through the design scheme you choose. You can change the following elements of your site:

The Banner
The Background colour/image
The type and sizes of font
The style of menu
The images in the main part of the pages

Note: the font style of each page is set in the basic website properties, however when you cut and paste from a document like Word you also bring in the formatting. We suggest if you are cutting and pasting that you first paste the text into a basic programme like ‘notepad’ (comes with windows XP as standard) and then copy and paste it into the website. This strips out all of the formatting to give you a consistent look on the site.

Designing the banner

The main banner needs to be 780 pixels wide (the hight of the banner can vary according to your design) A banner can be designed with any graphics software (Paintshop pro, Photoshop etc) In the Support and resource centre there is a link to Photobie a free graphics programme.

Here are some examples of how the design can change the look of your site:

Example 1
Spanish Villa
This site was designed to give a flavour of the Mediterranean, the Spanish setting of the villa is reflected in the use of bright, sunny colours. Each page has a header (600 pixels wide) as well as the main banner to create a distinctive design theme.
Example 2
Business website
With this site the creation of a striking banner along with a strong background helped to produce a very distinctive look to the site.
Example 3

Business website
This site just uses a simple banner to great effect. The menu is given a different look by having a double colon before each word on the menu. There is also one of our virtual tours on this site. This feature comes as standard with the Educational version of the CMS.

Example 4
Beauty Therapy site
With this site, instead of creating a top banner, a single image (600x500 pixels) on the front page helps to create a sophisticated and simple look.
